Wild Card -- Tuesday PM

In two years, the proposal will come up again, and if he succeeds in convincing the public that there is a kinder and gentler Duane, the public will approve the plan with modifications. This is a big one for Duane and he is not going to let it go this easily.

Travels with Herb

Straight south today, from Tucumcari, New Mexico to Deming N.M. Very high country. For about the last 75 miles into Albuquerque, I was above 5000 feet elevation, and loosing power on the hills. Over nighted here, then west to Phoenix. I originally intended to meet friends and relatives here and stay a few days. After stopping for the night, I felt the pull of my children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren in California.

I bailed out the next morning for Manteca, in the central valley of California.

I made Barstow for the night, back on route 66 via I-40. The rig, at 117,000 miles, was purring like a kitten. Gas prices in California are obscene. I drove on into Manteca the following day and spent Thanksgiving with the whole gaggle.

I'm Herb and I'm on a road trip.

Radio & TV Talk

When I asked why he never brought in Howard Stern, he said Mel Karmizan simply told him no and he doesn't really know why. (Conspiracy theorists have at it!)

Since I was the cause of the first tiff between management and the Regular Guys, I asked how they were going to manage the Regular Guys, who have been taken off the air twice already with Clear Channel. His response: "They are radio professionals. I believe there's a definite understanding. We'll give them all the latitude they need to make great radio."

Will there be diminishing returns for a show that didn't quite get back its ratings when it came back a second time at 96rock? He said the show, with "Southside" Steve back, is much better for it and he expects ratings will do as well as they did on the stronger 96.1 signal.

Edwards John

America's next President needs fire in his belly. Edwards is on fire. Obama's just on simmer.

Friday, January 4:

JOHN LORENZ: DEAFENING CORPORATE-MEDIA SILENCE ON EDWARDS GOOD SHOWING IN IOWA IS A DIRECT STAB AT EDWARDS' POPULISM. (7 comments) Noticing how the 'lamestream media' is already trying to marginalize John Edwards

Bill Burkett: Edwards Wins Iowa - for Obama (9 comments) Everyone this morning says that change was the victor and the status quo the loser. The pompous, arrogant press and talking heads couldn't wait to say "I told you so!" whistles barely out of their lips. They have anointed a new Democratic champion - or since Oprah pronounced his 'stardom,' they claim it as so.

Don Williams: Obama, Edwards wash away Hillary's bogus claim of "change" Friday morning I heard Hillary say this: "When we talk about change, we need somebody who won't just SAY change...

Scar Away Your Pain? Some Docs Back Prolotherapy

In college Barry Taft could bench-press a maximum of 225 pounds.

But over time the strain of weight lifting led Taft to severely injure the rotator cuff in his left shoulder.

"Boy, it just really hurt after that," Taft said. "For weeks and weeks it would not get any better." Taft could no longer take the 45-pound bar off the rack, let alone bench-press it with weights attached.

Eventually he opted for a little-known treatment that involved four sets of injections over the course of a year.

Xbox 360 team skipped quality testing of console to beat Sony to ...

Last summer, amidst a flurry of reports from Xbox 360 gamers, DailyTech exposed retailers' estimates that up to one-third of Xbox 360 consoles experience hardware failures within the first year of ownership. Just days after the report, Microsoft extended its warranty to cover the specific hardware failure for three years from purchase.

Now, six months later, a supposed Microsoft insider confirms that around 30% of Xbox 360 consoles, most based on the original 'Xenon' design, fail. "It's around 30 percent, and all will probably fail early," the source told 8Bit Joystick. "This quarter they are expecting 1M failures, most of those Xenons. Some of those are repeat failures."

Although Microsoft now covers all Xbox 360 consoles for three years against the Red Ring of Death (RROD) – the sign of a hardware failure – there is no specific time frame for the defect to appear.
