Mom battles cancer; Treatment needed not covered by provincial health ...
Crystal Gaudet was six months pregnant with her second child when her mother, Lise, noticed the lump on her throat. The 21-year-old had been feeling tired and ill, but she just assumed it was due to her pregnancy. The lump in her neck and another one doctors found in her chest led doctors to order a series of tests. In June 2007, Gaudet was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma - a cancer that develops in glands located in the neck, armpits, chest, abdomen and groin. Since she was pregnant, she could only undergo light treatment. Gaudet was induced five weeks before her due date so that she could undergo a full treatment of radiation therapy. The baby she had is fine. Angele is now six months old. Gaudet and her spouse, Daniel Allaire, also have a son, Nicholas, who is two-and-a-half years old.
